WATCHING HORROR MOVIES BURNS CALORIES!
SO, guess what I’ll be doing tonight? You see in this new study commissioned by website LoveFilm.com, researchers found watching a horror movie could have you burning up to 184 calories. They monitored heart rates, oxygen intake, carbon dioxide output and calories burned. 1 expert says that when the body experiences a surge in adrenaline the appetite is lowered, and the metabolic rate increases, which leads to more calories being burned. The top three calorie burning movies to watch?: The Shining, Jaws, and The Exorcist. (Daily Mail) Now I CAN have butter of that popcorn! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

TOMB OF THE UNKNOWNS TO REMAIN GUARDED DURING HURRICANE SANDY
Although Arlington National Cemetery has been closed to tourists because of Hurricane Sandy, U.S. Army servicemen will continue to guard the Tomb of the Unknowns throughout the storm. A spokesman for the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment, which is responsible for guarding the tomb, told the Associated Press that when the cemetery closes due to weather, the guard continues, but it's not the choreographed 21-pace that the public sees. Instead, soldiers guard the tomb from a small enclosure covered by a green awning about 20 feet away. If the weather becomes too dangerous, the tomb can be guarded from a room inside a nearby amphitheater. But the AP said no such order had been given as of Monday afternoon. The Tomb of the Unknowns holds the remains of unidentified soldiers from World Wars One and Two and the Korean War. Sentinels have kept it under continuous guard since 1948. GOD BLESS THEM!

Walk Shortly and carry a big Sword!
Okay, this may be a bit of “over-kill”…just sayin! A man robbed a Kansas City restaurant Tuesday night armed with a samurai sword. The suspect entered Church's Chicken just before 10 p.m. wearing a dark-gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying the sword. He’s described as a light-skinned black male around 5 feet 4 and weighing around 120 pounds. He’s said to have driven off in an older-model brown two-toned Chevy pickup truck, possibly from the 1980s.

CALIFORNIA MOM BREASTFEEDS HER DOG!
I am grossed out! No, it’s not the first time, just the latest! Listen to this. A 44-year-old woman in California says her maternal nature is satisfied because she is able to breastfeed her pet pug. Terri Graham told Closer magazine she wasn't able to breastfeed her 2 children but gets satisfaction from being able to feed her dog, Spider. She explained, "People might say I'm a freak, but having Spider suckle on my boob means I finally feel complete and a better mother." (Reddit) Can you say institutionalized?

Romney's Son Says Wanted to 'Take a Swing' at Obama During Debate
Political campaigns can be hard on the candidates' families, and 1of Mitt Romney's sons used some eyebrow-raising language Wednesday (October 17th) that demonstrated just how hard it can be. Tagg Romney, the oldest of the Republican presidential nominee's sons at age 42, was asked during a North Carolina radio station interview about watching the 2nd presidential debate a day earlier. He was specifically asked about hearing, quote, "the president of the United States call your dad a liar," and answered, "You want to rush down to the stage and take a swing at him But you know you can't do that because, well, first because there's a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that's the nature of the process. You know, they're going to do everything they can do to try to make my dad into someone he's not. We signed up for it. We've got to, kind of sit there and take our punches and then send them right back the other way." A Romney campaign spokeswoman said when asked about Tagg's "take a swing at him" comment, "He was joking about how frustrating this process can be for family." In an appearance on the TV's The View yesterday, another Romney son, 37-year-old Josh, also said his brother didn't mean it, and he joked, "That brother has slugged me a couple of times. I assure you President Obama has nothing to worry about." Quite frankly I can understand EXACTLY how he feels. When my husband ran and lost a little local election and people lied about him I felt the same way and wish I could have done the same thing. If you have ever been in political circles you know how nasty they can get. I hate the lies and hear then daily from political commercials and candidates. Very frustrating! Just remember to VOTE!

WOMAN SETS VENDING MACHINE ON FIRE
A North Carolina woman who encountered a malfunctioning vending machine set it on fire after it took her money. 43-year-old Debra Johnson was trying to buy something from a 7-Up machine outside of a supermarket when the machine failed and took her money. Surveillance footage shows her 1st kicking it and then lighting a newspaper on fire and stuffing it into the machine. During a court hearing Johnson told the judge, "I don't need a lawyer to lie for me, cause I'mma tell you I done it." Now who hasn’t gotten TAKEN by a vending machine! I have! And honestly who hasn’t kicked 1 before, well, I haven’t done that but only because I would hurt my shoe or toes inside the shoe. Anyway, good for her for taking the rap and saying “guilty”. Wonder what she’ll get charged for it? Cost of the machine, time behind bars; hopefully some Anger Management Classes!

When is the most dangerous time to drive a car?
That would be anytime as far as I am concerned. And yes, I AM concerned. With the number of accidents reported each and every day here on WORD’s traffic reports on the Russ and Lisa Show, we are just scratching the surface and hitting on a few of the hundreds that take place daily! Many times, accidents can be blamed on poor weather conditions; rain, fog, snow, ice; but most of the time they are caused by what troopers call “inattention.” There’s a new study out from Forbes and it finds the most dangerous month to drive is is August, and that any given Saturday is the most dangerous day. Nationwide, 49% of fatal crashes happen at night. Be careful out there … good listeners are hard to find (and apparently so are good drivers around here)!

A pocket-sized car for pocket change?
It could soon be a reality for American drivers! The chairman of Indian automaker Tata has announced plans to bring the $3,000 Nano micro car to the U.S. within 3 years, according to Automotive News. It’s 10 feet long, has 4 doors and is currently powered by a 37 hp 2-cylinder engine and lacks common safety features such as power steering, traction control and airbags. It was originally designed to compete in the Indian market against scooters and motorcycles. Along with added safety equipment, it’s likely the car will get a larger, less polluting engine for export markets. Unfortunately, that means the price will increase, as well, possibly tripling by the time it goes on sale here. So would you want one? The Nano launched in 2009, but quality issues and it’s still relatively high price compared to two-wheel vehicles have kept it from becoming the runaway hit originally envisioned. As of April of this year, just 175,000 Nanos had been sold in India, which has a population of 1.2 billion people.

HOT COSTUME -- SEXY BIG BIRD!
Do you still dress up for Halloween? Do you attend Halloween Costume arties? Well, you may wanna know that this year’s “fashion” craze is … SEXY BIG BIRD!? A representative from costumecraze.com told ABC News that although its original Big Bird costume sold out before the first presidential debate -- there was a 500% increase in sales for the women's "sassy Big Bird adult costume" post-debate. The "sassy" rendition of the beloved "Sesame Street" character is a short, yellow-ruffled dress with orange knee-highs and pink accents. The costume comes complete with a bird headband. Embracing the spirit of Halloween, many people are also apparently going for “dead” Big Bird: CostumeCraze says one of its most popular pairings is a Big Bird costume along with Mitt Romney—plus a machine gun.

MED WITH RED FACES ARE HOT? NOT!
What is wrong with us? Apparently according to this new “study”, men with red complexions are irresistibly attractive to women. WHAT THE HECK! I always thought men with red faces were alcoholics. You know, they look like W.C. Fields! Or evil like Satan! But in this “study”, women were asked to manipulate pictures of men's faces to make them more attractive -- and the first thing they did was make their skin tone redder. It is thought that rosy cheeks are a sign of good circulation and therefore an indication of good health. The women, who had the choice of adding red or yellow tones, tended to plump for a degree of pinkness. They added even more red when asked to make the men look as dominant as possible. (Daily Mail)

Soda Makers to Show Calories on Vending Machines
The American Beverage Association says Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and others will next year start displaying the calorie count for drinks sold in vending machines. City government buildings in San Antonio and Chicago will be the first to have vending machines showing calorie counts, with it spreading out nationwide afterward. The calorie counts will be shown on the buttons people press to pick a drink and the machines will also display a message reminding consumers to, quote, "check then choose" and "try a low calorie beverage." So, what do you think of this plan to show calorie counts on soda vending machines? Do you think doing so might lead some people to press the button for a diet soda or bottled water instead? Do you think it's true in general that people will eat less or choose a healthier option if they know the amount of calories in the food they have to choose from? And why stop there, how about the calorie counts on snack vending machines? Good idea, bad idea, don’t care?

Will You Dress Your Pet in a Costume for Halloween?
A growing number are extending the fun of Halloween to their pets, dressing them up in silly costumes for the increasingly adult-centric holiday. Time magazine reports 15% of Americans plan on dressing up their pets this Halloween, with $370 million expected to be spent on pet costumes. The magazine also says there's been a 40% increase in spending on pet costumes since just 2010. So what kind of costumes? Real Simple magazine reports that the most popular ones for both dogs and cats are a pumpkin, devil, hot dog and bumblebee. SO, are you planning to dress up your pet for Halloween? If so, what will the costume be? What do you think of a growing number of folks dressing up their pets for Halloween? Sorry, but I think it’s a little too weird, but hey, do what you wanna do with your pet. I just know 1 thing for sure, our black Lab OTIS would leave home if we even tried something like that!

GIRL WEARING 'VAGINA' T-SHIRT GETS SENT HOME!
GIRL WEARING 'VAGINA' T-SHIRT GETS SENT HOME! Gee, you think? What kind of idiot mother, father, parent, guardian, sane adult allows their daughter OR son to wear that kind of shirt to high school in the 1st place? Anyway, here’s the story: A high school student in New York claims her free speech rights were violated after she was sent home for wearing a shirt that read, "I enjoy vagina." When 15-year-old Brianna Demato refused to change her shirt, the assistant principal sent her home. Demato said, "It's hypocritical. They use the word in class -- why can't I, on a shirt?" The girl's mother, Cathy, said she tried defending her daughter but the same assistant principal had them both escorted out of the school. She explained, "They're discriminating against Brianna. They pulled her out of class for nothing. She's not hurting anyone. It's her right to wear that shirt." An Education Department spokeswoman said, "The language on the shirt was likely to cause disruption and the language is inappropriate for school." (New York Daily News) Please before I die let this world that I so love get its heart and brain back…please!

Words Hurt; believe me I know!
An overweight morning news anchor at WKBT-TV in La Crosse, Wisconsin, took to the air Tuesday morning (October 2nd) to talk about an email she received about her size that she described as bullying. Jennifer Livingston said she was stunned when she got the email Friday, saying, "Those of us in the media get a healthy dose of critiques from our viewers throughout the year, and we realize that it comes with having a job in the public eye. But this email was more than that." She read the email aloud, without identifying the writer, which was titled "Community Responsibility" and said, in part, "Surely you don't consider yourself a suitable example for this community's young people, girls in particular. Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle." Livingston said she was inspired to respond on air after the overwhelmingly supportive response from the public after her husband, the station's evening news anchor, posted the email on his station Facebook page and wrote, "Seriously, the fact that there are people out there like this (and I understand this person is a lawyer in town) makes me sick to my stomach." Livingston responded in the broadcast, saying, "Yes, the truth is, I am overweight. You could call me fat and, yes, even obese on a doctor's chart. But to the person who wrote me that letter, do you think I don't know that? You don't know me. You are not a friend of mine. You are not a part of my family, and you have admitted that you don't watch this show. So you know nothing about me, but what you see on the outside. And I am much more than a number on a scale." Livingston then turned the issue into a discussion on bullying, noting that October is National Anti-Bullying Month, and saying, "This behavior is learned. It is passed down from people like the man who wrote me that email . . . We need to teach our kind to be kind, not critical, and we need to do that by example." She ended with a message to kids being bullied, saying, "Do not let your self-worth be defined by bullies. Learn from my experience that the cruel words of one are nothing compared to the shouts of many." thank you Darlin' I have heard this all my life...from the Rock and Roll Music Days when Twiggy was the role model to today when I am called unfit to be a representative of a Christian woman all because of my weight. thank you and God Bless you for speaking out. I took it and cried but maybe now I too will have the courage to speak up for myself instead of just everyone else!

BLONDES ARE MORE LIKELY TO CHEAT!
A study of Cheaterville -- a site that allows you to call out your unfaithful partner in a public forum -- found that blonde women are more likely to cheat. 42% of the unfaithful women on the website have blonde hair, 23% are redheads, brunettes came in at 20% and black-haired women at 11%. Men, on the other hand, are predominantly brown-haired (40%), then black haired (23%), blondes at 20%, and red heads are at 5%. (Cheaterville) SO; Do you actively think about hair color stereotypes when it comes to who you date? If someone dyed their hair, do you apply the stereotypes of their current or natural hair color to them?

WOMAN CALLS 9-1-1 TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BAD SERVICE AT BURGER KING
An incident report from the Niceville Police Department in Florida shows that an "extremely upset and crying" woman called 9-1-1 to complain that Burger King messed up her order. The report also noted that the woman said she "got crappy service" and that the restaurant wouldn't refund her money. Even though the police called the BK manager to find out what happened, the crying woman was told to refrain from calling the emergency number unless she has an emergency. (The Smoking Gun) Gosh, and I thought we went to the fast food locations for the delicious food and white tablecloth service! Duh, you idiot!

WHAT DOES A WOMAN REALLY KEEP IN HER PURSE?
According to a new survey -- toilet paper, spare underwear, chocolate and an iPod have places reserved in the handbag. Painkillers, sunglasses and nail files are also most likely to be found deep in the bags, alongside more predictable items such as money, a make-up bag and a notepad. Strangely -- only 72% of women actually carry money or bank cards with them. The research also revealed that most carry 40 items inside them. (Telegraph)
