A new survey finds that Americans respond to a bad day with their wallets. The survey finds that nearly 52% of respondents say they spend money to improve their mood, and more than half of them say they do this "retail therapy" online. Nearly 19% of participants said a tough day at work triggers the spending, while almost 15% say they shop after receiving bad news, and just over 12% said they reach for their wallet after a fight with their significant other. It found women are more likely than men to shop to improve their mood. It also found females usually shop for clothing, while the men usually shop for food.
