Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler is investigating a death that occurred during a July 4 thunderstorm.
Fowler said 34-year-old Paul Terrell Littlejohn of 209 Seventh St. died after being struck by a large tree limb while standing in the yard of his home Thursday evening.
"Witnesses reported Mr. Littlejohn was standing under an oak tree during the thunderstorm that produced wind gusts of up to 40 mph about 7:30 p.m. when the rotten limb gave way falling on top of him," Fowler said.
Fowler said the limb measured 3 feet in circumference and fell onto Littlejohn from a height of about 25 feet.
Fowler said a neighbor was able to pull the limb off of Littlejohn and began trying to resuscitate him before first responders arrived.
Fowler said Littlejohn was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
