Info A graduate of Emory University and the University of South Carolina, Emile DeFelice began farming in South Carolina in 1995. Emile and his wife Allison have two children, Louis and Lydia, and make their home in Columbia. Emile’s farm is located in Calhoun County.
Emile has been very active in the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, which is dedicated to supporting and expanding local food systems. After serving on the Board of Directors for five years, Emile was hired as the first South Carolina Director. The office is entirely supported by private funding.
Emile also serves as Chairman of the South Carolina Food Policy Council and is a member of the South Carolina Rural Development Council. He is a frequent speaker on new market trends in agriculture.
Hugh E. Weathers of Bowman, SC, a third generation dairy farmer, was appointed Interim Commissioner of Agriculture in September of 2004 and Commissioner of Agriculture in January of 2005. In November of 2006 and again in November of 2010, he was elected by the people of South Carolina to serve consecutive four-year terms as Commissioner of Agriculture.
Co-owner with brother, Landy Weathers, of Weathers Farms, Inc. a 650-cow dairy operation in Bowman, and Weathers Trucking, Inc., a bulk milk delivery service for over 30 dairies in South Carolina, Commissioner Weathers is a University of South Carolina Magna Cum Laude graduate with a BS in Accounting and Finance and a former Corporate Banking Officer with C&S National Bank. He is also a partner of Circle W Farms, a row crop farming operation in Bowman.
Commissioner Weathers has served on the United Dairy Industry Association, Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, American Dairy Association of SC, South Carolina Dairy Association, South Carolina Farm Bureau Legislative Committee and PAC Committee, South Carolina Conservation Bank, AgSouth Farm Credit Association, and the Greater Bowman Business Development Council. Mr. Weathers is also a member of the Bowman Southern Methodist Church.
Commissioner Weathers and his wife, Blanche, have three sons – Gill, Edward, and Julius.
